Dormant Sinningia leucotricha
Dormant Sinningia leucotricha
My Sinningia leucotricha has gone dormant. As with some caudiciforms, I stopped watering it when it became dormant but I noticed the caudex shrinking. Is this normal? Should I water it instead?

Yes, water the tuber or store it in a zip lock bag with some vermiculite or peat moss that is just the tiniest bit damp, as in if you misted the media with one spray from hand held mist bottle. In the bag, if may sprout sooner for you and can be planted and gently watered immediately, once growth is observered. You can raise the tuber to expose the upper half or 2/3 of the tuber and use a potting mix with a fast draining mix, with a reasonable amount of organic matter. They grow in cracks and crevices in rock, amongst detritus from leaves and grasses.
