Re: Dan's 2014
June was a busy month for me, although I was on a field course in Costa Rica for most of the month, so I didn't get as much contact with my plants as I would've liked. Costa Rica was incredible though!
June was still fairly floriferous nonetheless. I got my first ever Strombocactus flowers in June. They really were breathtaking.
I also got started on growing some African Amaryllids from seed. They've really grown since this picture, but this is how they looked before I left in early June.
Another first time flower I had in June was Cintia knizei! Hurray for first flowers from small genera.
And this lot flowered too (amongst others). Eriosyce napina, Lobivia famatimensis, Gymnocalycium mesopotamicum and Thelocactus bicolor v. tricolor.
That's about the gist of June in my collection.

Re: Dan's 2014
Some pictures from July now, to bring this thread up to speed. Sadly most of my Eriosyce flowered while I was away, but I suppose I'll be able to see them again next year. Can everyone see these pictures just fine? I've been using my pictures posted on tumblr so I don't have to resize and re-upload them here.
Let's start off with a nice night-bloomer, which I usually don't see in flower, Setiechinopsis mirabilis
And catching up with those bulb seedlings, they really grew a lot while I was away:
One of my seed grown Ceropegia woodii began flowering! It's not really stopped this month:
These two ridiculous hybrid flowers were open just a few days ago, Epiphyllum 'showboat' and Echinopsis 'Sorceress':
Escobaria minima is such a treat when it flowers, and it only needs a 2 inch square pot. Definitely a good investment in terms of bench space!

Re: Dan's 2014
Thanks, I'm pleased with them. They barely cost me anything as well. They came with a seed order I made back in September and some of them were sent free as gifts. I also got a generous portion of Aztekium valdezii seeds for free, along with numerous Sclerocactus seeds I ordered. Worth the wait I'd say.adetheproducer wrote:Nice new additions.

Re: Dan's 2014
A few flowers for you all to enjoy.
Echinocereus pulchellus, Thelocactus hexaedrophorus and Thelocactus bicolor v. tricolor
Two nice little Astrophytums in flower. The first is A. asterias which started out as being a nude form but then decided to start growing flocking. It had a pure yellow flower though, which is somewhat different. The second is a hybrid of A. asterias and an unknown parent (probably ornatum).
Hybrids!
This one is Rebutia 'Candy Stripe'.
The classic xChamaelobivia 'Rose Quartz'.
A snail-eaten Echinopsis 'Romance'.
And lastly of these hybrids, two lovely flowers on Echinopsis 'Bourne sunset'.
Flowers to be continued....

Re: Dan's 2014
And some more flowers from the past week or so for everyone to enjoy.
Naturally, one of my favourites. Eriosyce crispa v. huascensis
This isn't a succulent or a cactus, but some people might find it quite nice. Hypoxis villosa.
One of the best plants in my collection was in full flourish as well, enjoying all the heat we've had recently. xFerobergia (L. principis x F. fordii)
A lone Cumarinia odorata, which isn't much to look at, I'll admit.
And to round off the flowers I've had recently (I have had plenty of others as well as ones here ), these two Turbinicarpus lophophoroides were in flower today.
Now, just one more post with some new plants and a collection overview, and this thread will be more or less up to date... at least for a day or two.

Re: Dan's 2014
Soooo, to round off this lot of posting, I'll show you some new plants I got in the post and what my greenhouse looks like at the moment.
Here are my newbies:
I got 4 different localities of Echinocactus horizonthalonius. Some of which are spiny...
Or not so spiny.
I got 2 Mammillaria haudeana forms from different localities.
Obregonia denegrii
A grafted Strombocactus corregidorae to pair with my other plant on it's own roots.
And a grafted Escobaria abdita, which might have a fruit forming on it!
Finally, what's the state of my greenhouse? Well it looks like this at the moment!
It's getting a little cramped in there, but I can always make space by rearranging plants if need be. I just need to stop buying more plants in the mean time.

" I can always make space by rearranging plants if need be. I just need to stop buying more plants in the mean time. " Oh the BS we tell ourselves! My GH is packed also but I'll be fine if nothing grows any bigger. Yeah, Right! Maybe we should come up with a list of the 10 Best Lines( or is that Lies) of Cactus Keeping. Sue

Re: Dan's flowers and stuff 2014
Time for a little catching up. The weather hasn't been amazing lately, so there's not that much to report.
Beautiful Gymnocalycium ragonesei flowers.
My ever reliable Astrophytum asterias in bloom.
My first flower on this Avonia quinaria ssp. quinaria.
...and what the plant itself looks like:
Echinopsis hybrid 'Whirligig'.
And for Ade (amongst others!), my Ariocarpus and Loph. collection. Sadly you can't really see my big L. williamsii v. caespitosa in this picture.
Leuchtenbergia buds in the making.
And one for the bulb-lovers amongst us. Ammocharis tinneana in full leaf indoors. There are assorted other plants in the background too: big U. pectinifera, Schlumbergera, some Adenium hybrids, Eriosyce seedlings and others.

Re: Dan's flowers and stuff 2014
Yep, well spotted. I need to clear out some space for plants I like, so I'm selling some species I have several plants of, or things I'm not all that fond of. Currently just spares, but I might list some I have one plant of.adetheproducer wrote:Hi Dan, is this one of your sales?
