Yes surprising what alternatives spellcheckers give for words not in their dictionaries.

A friend abroad emailed me and asked if I thought A. valdezii was real or a Photoshopped creation since it looked like it had the body of A. hintonii with the flowers of Mammillaria luethyi Photoshopped on!

I can see what he means:-

It will be nice when plants become available to prove it!

I expected the Czechs to get their hands on it quite quickly to be honest. They must have a fair number of plants already in their collections for rapid propagation and distribution. :P I would've expected the plant to sell for more than that, though. I've seen other Aztekiums go for similar prices on ebay. Still a lot of money, though.

Great Eduart!

Interesting point, I see a Latin diagnosis is given on page 7 following a similar English description on page 6, but since the start of the year a Latin diagnosis is no longer compulsory and English can be used instead, so which now officially will be cited as the type description, the Latin on page 7 or the English that precedes it on page 6? I would think the English description being printed first on page 6 would take priority when citing publication?

Not that important really, but I wonder what the "rules" will dictate?

Good to see a description around so soon after it's discovery! Thanks Eduart. Am I correct in thinking that C depicts a seed? If so, seeds that are 1mm long sounds awfully big for an Aztekium seed. :)

Hi,
Am I correct in thinking that C depicts a seed? If so, seeds that are 1mm long sounds awfully big for an Aztekium seed.
Well, seeds have been described as having a maximal height / width of 0.69 mm. The drawing is probably a bit out of scale, but main thing is it shows the seed's structure and overly massive dome.
Interesting point, I see a Latin diagnosis is given on page 7 following a similar English description on page 6,
There is no Latin diagnosis, the English diagnosis precedes a description in Spanish, as the entire original article is. I would say the English description will take priority... but we didn't really put thoughts in this. We made no alteration to the Spanish original version, it was published as supplied. The English version was also checked and approved by the authors.

Cheers,
Eduart
