I'd like to comment, but what I'd say would violate the family-language guidelines of this forum.
I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.

I'd like to point out that many more saguaros are damaged in the Black Canyon City Area, with shotgun blasts. Cactus plugging is a much larger issue than a little bit of spray paint. While it's horrible and I do not condone tagging cacti, (or anything else for that matter) at least that won't kill the plants.

Pity they don't all collapse on them, but if you will let the irresponsible buy guns what do you expect?

haha yes, that was a true story. To me it's sad that anyone would shoot anything that is living. But seriously shooting a plant is beyond cowardly. One of these days I will post all my gun shot cacti pics..
A few people on other sites do not believe me that it's a problem, or they try and blame "illegals" probably we are getting a tab bit political, but it's a political problem. The problem is with the residents of Arizona who shoot their own native plants because they are too stupid and ignorant to care what they do.

Unfortunately that's been going on as long as I can remember, and I've lived in AZ all of my 40 years. Idiots get drunk and go out in the desert and use the saguaros for target practice. The graffiti's a fairly recent development, however. I've only heard about it within the last 5 years.

I've seen the gangbanger graffiti on several saguaros around metro Tucson. It's a real shame to see it has made its way into the pristine outlying desert.

Actions like that, or drunk in possession of a firearm would get your firearms certificate revoked over here:-

Back on the original topic, however, how to stop the spray paint? Perhaps spray painting the perps from head to toe would be a good deterrent. It wouldn't hurt them, but it sure would be unpleasant. I think there was a movie with that in it. Can't remember it now.

even better would be to make them hug a saguaro. Won't hurt the saguaro, but they sure wouldn't like it... As for Darwin, it's not actually him I have hope in, it's more like mother nature, however, that is also a slow process... not really a such thing generally as instant karma... But if there was.. maybe next tiem their spray paint can will explode into their face...!

wow, I know we're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but those two do not look like the sharpest tools in the shed, if you know what I mean.

hope their mother's see their pictures and turn them in. And yes PeterB, I agree. I mean after all if you are dumb enough to spray paint a cactus, or rock art work, or other naturally beautiful things.. (yes I know the rock artwork is man made!) then I think it's pretty sound logically to assume that the people aren't the sharpest tools in the shed!
