E. senilis in flower

Post by Steve Johnson »

Well, it took awhile, but my Eriosyce senilis finally flowered today. 10 buds first appeared on January 30, and here they are about 3 weeks later:

Here they are a week ago -- any day now:

And today, my first E. senilis flower of 2013:

6 other buds are almost ready to open, but 3 are hanging back for some reason. Not sure why, but they may be getting ready for another flush. To complicate the matter, the senilis is due for a repot as I downsize it from a 5" to a 4" pot (see http://www.cactiguide.com/forum/viewtop ... =2&t=29017" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;). While I'm not thrilled about the possibility of aborting these buds, I really need to do the repot tomorrow as I get the plant ready for the new growing season. My senilis has been a real trooper since I got it in 2011, so I'm sure it'll settle into its properly-sized pot just fine. Such being the case, I'm also sure that we'll see more flowers out of that lovely plant later in Spring.

Well I hope they don't abort as well, good luck with it not happening when you repot! Those are very nice flowers, would be a shame to lose them. =D>

Very nice flower color. I haven't purchased any cacti in quite awhile, E. senilis is on the list after seeing yours Steve.
