J-Cacti 2012
Re: J-Cacti 2012
E. recondita also flowering here this week. Big contrast with the much larger flowers on E. esmeraldana.
I've heard the tip to leave the Tephrocactus types completely dry until the buds appear but it hasn't made any difference for me. In particular T. geometricus flowered this year despite being watered many weeks earlier. I do feel that keeping them too well watered (during the year prior to wanting the flowers) just encourages them to reproduce vegetatively rather than with flowers.

Really beautiful plants and pictures! Awesome!
Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.

Re: J-Cacti 2012
Thanks Ralf and Daryl.
Ian, I havent had the flowering size Tephrocactus long enough to tell but it might very well be possible that the plant remenbers the growing conditions of last year and decides which way to go in the running year- flower or another few segments.
With the Puna (now also Tephrocactus ) bonniae it wa the other way around . They were being watered from the beginnning of the growing period and always kept growing with adaquate water last year and kept dry untill they well put out new growth this year.
It might be a matter of maturity in opuntoids too ( if they are already able to flower)?
I kept this Tephro geometricus dry untill last week too.(It has only been with me since this spring)

Beautiful flowers, Jens!
The Austrocactus is awesome. Usually it shall be cold hardy. Isn't it?
It isn't easy to get plants of this genus. Where have you bought it or is it grown from seed?

Beautiful blooms - thanks for sharing!! I love the flowers on the Graptopetulum bellum - very dainty but yet bold and captivating to me.
