Extension and beautification

Post by Ralf »

I have done some beautification and extension works around the greenhouse. Anyhow the main thought behind was to get more space. The result thereof is now a bigger and better cold frame. It will mainly used for cold hardy cacti in pots and their propagation. Some other plants are only in the cold frame for the summer.

Nice work! A very clean arrangement. In picture 339_greenhouse.JPG - is this looking to the East? South to the right?

Thanks for your nice comments folks!
Daiv, it's absolutely correct. The flowerbed and cold frame is facing south. Other directions won't make any sense.

Ralf, this is what I thought. I wondered if the buildings near the greenhouse caused any shade problems for you?

Yes indeed, Daiv. It's only during the winter rest from end of October until begin of March. The most of the greenhouse is then shaded. :(
However it can't be everything perfect.

Ralf, I understand. It is hard for us at these northern latitudes to avoid shadows unless we are on top of a hill. Then you have to fight the winds!

Thanks Darryl! Always on the way to perfection.
Daiv, if the cacti are bloom and grow there is no reason to change anything.

Your back yard looks very comfortable. I like it.
I am just looking for the defining statement to put here. Follow this link to see my other cacti.

I dig that small greenhouse. That size would be perfect for the limited space in my yard...er...patio.

Very nice work Ralf! Could you let me know the make/model of your little cold frame? It looks more sturdy then what I have found so far. Does it seem to be pretty durable?

Thanks for your kind responses, folks.
tumamoc, we should have a look for a smart solution of your space problem, if I'm for the next time in Tucson.
Otherwise you should join the TCSS! There are a lot guys who would help you too. :)
Sharpy, the cold frame is made by Beckmann. It's a German manufacturer. I'm not sure whether you can buy it in the USA.
This model is expandable to endless. Here you'll find their online-shop. (Sorry it's only in German)
