A good day in the greenhouse...

Well I forgot to bring my camera so I only have one pic that I took with my phone. I spent several hours today at the greenhouse taking advantage of my new space and doing some much-needed repotting. In the process I really got to spend a lot of time scrutinizing the plants. I have to say that I'm quite happy with how well they are all doing. However, I notice that many have flowered more in the past couple years - which is part of the reason they need to be repotted.

One of them that really was ready for a bigger pot was my Echinocereus viereckii subsp. morricalii

I moved it up from an 8inch pot to a 10 inch. Funny thing when I pulled it out, there was a pup that was forming under the soil on the side of the pot and far from the other stems. It apparently formed at the end of the roots? It also wasn't exactly pointing up - very strange:

I like the look of the bellows corking. I bet that would stage nicely in a show pot.

I don't know - could be. It was a very unexpected thing to see there.

Definately not a stolon but perhaps, a rhizome? (stolons are above ground shoots)

I've not noticed these either , nor would have expected them but, I have several of these in 6" and up pots. Guess its time to go dig up a few.

Sure you didn't drop and agave seed into your potting mix.

I thought about a loose pup or seed or something, but this thing hasn't been repotted in a few years. So if it was not connected to the main plant, it would have to have survived its whole life without any food from photosynthesis.
