Thanks. It feels like a real accomplishment just keeping these things alive. I try not to push them too hard.

Anyone know if erectocentrus seeds are ready to sow straight from the fruit? Do they need to age a bit first?

Nope, they germinate like weeds directly after ripening, at least the ones I've sown.

Here are some seedlings of the crossed plants, sown in early summer 2012. Echinomastus erectocentrus x acunensis is in the front and the reverse of that is in the back. I got awesome germination rates from the fruits! There is not really any obvious differences between the plants a this stage. Time to come out of the bag.

I'll be very interested to see how these crosses come out, in particular to compare with the Florence AZ population which might be a erecto X acunensis cross.

Earlier in this thread, my acunensis was tentatively identified as the Florence variety, rather than the one from the Sonoyta-OPNM area (the pure variety?) So, maybe it is already a hybrid. :dontknow: .

2013 has been another good year for Echinomastus blooms, and a first for my E. johnsonii! I am predicting there will be more seed. Who knows how these crossed varieties will end up?
