Cool! No red center!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

gemhunter, here is the Astrophytum capricorne ssp. niveum in bloom last summer with the red center. It has buds on it now, but it looks like another week before they'll open.

Oh, ok. Still pretty cool, but I thought all astros normally have red centers .

Re: Astrophytum ornatum . . .
Astrophytum asterias, A. caput-medusae, A. capricorne, and A. coahuliense have red throats while A. myriostigma and A. ornatum do not. From what I understand, one of the arguments for recognizing A. coahuliense as a different species from A. myriostigma is that the flower has a red throat just like A. capricorne.

Re: Astrophytum ornatum . . .
There are also other differences that set A. myriostigma and A. ornatum apart, so despite appearances they are considered as one group while A. asterias gets placed with A. capricorne.
