Two Cacti ID request

Post by Minime8484 »

These two cacti were already in the ground in my yard when I moved in over 10 years ago, but I've never been able to put a definite ID on either of them.
I'd love to know what you all think they could be.
Neither has ever bloomed for me. :(

The first one is about 3.5ft tall, and I have always suspected it to be Echinopsis spachiana.

Whole plant:

The second plant, which is a sprawling plant, I assume is some species of Echinopsis, but that's about all I can guess:

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Tristan

The first is definitely E. spachiana

The second is probably a hybrid.

First one looks like Echinopsis spachiana and the second looks Echinopsis huascha.
Like always, flowers will help confirm.

I think you all have hit the nail on the head.

I agree with Echinopsis spachinana for #1 & Echinopsis huascha for #2.

I'm hoping for blooms some day to confirm...not sure why they are refusing to date; I may provide supplemental water this spring and see if that helps (never watered either plant).

Thanks all!
Cheers,
Tristan

Water and fertilizer should do the trick. :)

#2 confirmed now as Echinopsis huascha by presenting me FINALLY with a single flower this week.

Unfortunately, still no sign of flowered from #1 (the purported E. spachiana).

those can be hard to ID because you need a flower to be sure. I have seen E. huascha that looks like E. spachiana and vice versa.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
