What do I have here

Post by bking29 »

Hello to All: Well here is another one I have had for a few years now. It started as a very small sucker that droped off a cati that was at work. The person I got this from said that it is decent of one his Uncle had 40 years ago. I now have many off shoots started from this one . this one and the one he had and his dads all came into bloom with in 24 hours of each other....Ok what do I have here.........Brad

Definitely Echinopsis, but I thought E. oxygona was very pale pink. There are so many white ones that it is hard to keep them identified, but I think you could start with E. subdenudata and branch out from there...

I'd go with oxygona, too.

Echinopsis are so hybridized you can't realy tell the true origin. Probably another hybrid.

Looks like Echinopsis eyriesii - which has been lumped into E. oxygona now. With the latest lumping, E. oxygona can now have flowers from white to dark pink and everything in-between.

Daiv that's why to be safe I call it Echinopsis SSP. I don't know what they all are. There are so many different colors and names and hybrids...

I agree with Daiv. It's an Echinopsis eyriesii.
I'd rather call it with the name above, since lumping it into oxygona looks and feels wrong for my taste! [-X
No more lumping, no more lumping :protest:

But what would the species be then? :dontknow: There is no point in calling it "unknown subspecies" as long as you don't know what the higher taxonomical level (species) is.

And why not just call it Echinopsis (and nothing else)? If you don't know the spicies Echinopsis is good just aswell. Is it?
