Forum restored - free to post...

Post by daiv »

Hey everyone.

As you see the forum has mostly restored. I've got to put in the image resize mod and some of those other things. The good thing is that since we discussed all this in the "comments" section, I have a list of everything that needs to be done.

Please feel free to make posts, however, don't upload huge images yet. I'll get the resize mod done first and then post here (so we don't get that board quota message).

As everyone will be aware - all the images (and avatars) since the upload are gone. Our only hope there is if the Warrick utility can find them. That might be a couple weeks, however before that is done running.

Stay tuned for more updates....

OK, picture mod installed. Feel free to post and add pictures as much as needed. I will fix the styles and get the header back to normal again.

Daiv. Congrats and Thanks to you and all of your co-workers to re-build this forum again. I must say I was a bit lost for last few days.

By the way, I also made a local backup of the forum this time.

Been trying to locate cached images from the forum on the web, but have no luck so far. If anyone knows how to do this, please post. If we find a good way to do it, perhaps we could all team up on the task and then it wouldn't be so much to do.

Otherwise, feel free to repost any images...

Great DR job, Daiv! It looks like most of the images have been restored, same with the avatars. I've been through some computer-related "oh s***" moments myself, but nothing compared to the heartache you went through. The ISP maintaining your web and email servers let you down in a major way, so I truly hope that never happens to you again. In the meantime, I can't thank you enough for all the tremendous effort you do to keep this invaluable forum going, and those of us who enjoy it should never take your hard work for granted.

Looking much better Daiv, i find it hard to understand how things were not backed up for 16 months though.

I back up all my important stuff to an external hard drive at the end of every month.

One small point, the search box at the top seems not to work but the advanced search does work.

Great work, Daiv. I can easily imagine (been there, done that, bought the tee shirt) the pain you went thru...

Thanks for the hard work getting the forum working again Daiv! I just joined the forum a couple weeks ago and was gearing up to make some posts to show people my collection including a bunch of plants I got last week. Given what happened I guess I'm glad I waited to post my pictures!

Yes, I just looked through the member topics section. The loss of images is most apparent there and it just gives me a knot in my stomach. Everyone has been so positive here and in e-mails to me and that is appreciated.

Perhaps if each person uploaded a few of their missing pictures starting with the newest and working back, we might be able to get things looking better again. I know it will be impossible to be 100%.

Ok, I started to re-upload my images since I save all my re-sized forum pics but I did run into a snag. There's a 10 image limit now and some of my old posts had more than that so I could only fix 10. Should I just use photobucket or something for the extras?
