TimN 2012 Photo Topic
Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic
I'm using the Genhydro pH test kit, and I get a yellow color leaning to slightly yellowish green. To me it looks like a pH of 6.5, possibly 6.0 depending on how you read the chart. a pH of 5.5 is orangish-yellow on the chart and I'm definitely not getting that. I'm harvesting rainwater off my greenhouse roof which made of is polycarbonate panels and my storage tank is a hard plastic, so don't think there is anything in the system that could be raising the pH.

375-460ppm is in the extremely hard range for a water supply. Cave Creek reports its water as extremely hard but only moderately alkaline at pH 7.2-7.7 in 2008. Scottsdale reports similar water. The low pH for such hard water suggests that chlorides and sulphates make up a large fraction of the dissolved solids rather than carbonates. This is sometimes referred to as permanent hardness, cannot be removed by boiling, and doesn't fur up your heating elements. My tap water is usually like this:
8.0-8.2 pH
375-450ppm dissolved crapola
I believe both of those are pretty extreme for tap water.

Beautiful! I know what you mean about 'favorites'...seems my favorite ends up being whichever one I am looking at at any one time...

That said, I still have way too many plants that I don't really care for or don't excite me. If I could just whittle it down to my 200-300 favorites I'd be golden!

Thanks for showing, Tim! Really awesome.
Only when the last tree has died, the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realize that we cannot eat money.

Tim - Didn't you just have a Clearance/Whittling down of your plants? I see all the eBay plants went.
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Thanks everyone! Your feedback is appreciated! If I didn't post pictures here not many people would ever see my plants.
Yes, I did just sell some plants on ebay and I just put up another batch. At 20 plants at a time it's going to be a while before I get it whittled down enough. Plus, I just put in a small order with Miles2Go. DOH!
It's supposed to warm up this week so there should be more flowers soon.
