Echinopsis Sighting?

Post by stevo3214 »

Hello there. I have a cactus that I bought at a local nursery, and I was wondering if anyone here could help in identifying it? I'm really thinking along the lines of the genus Echinopsis. The cactus is somewhat large, about the size of a grapefruit, and has yellow fuzz and long, sometimes curved, spines. I have posted pics below. Thank you for your help.

Yes, it's an Echinopsis but I wouldn't really want to have to put a species name to it.

I was thinking Echinopsis pojoensis myself, but I might have to wait for it to bloom.

My bet would be on a hybrid. Which is not a bad thing when it comes to Echinopsis/Trichocereus

Echinopsis mamillosa, perhaps? Some of the species in this genus look so similar...

Exactly right and especially hybrids. You really can't insist on a species at this point. Flowers will help a lot which shouldn't be too far off.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
