Offset?

Post by writer333 »

I have a cactus, and one of its areoles has another areole on top of it. The two areoles are attached, and the one on top is sticking out into the air. As far as I know, this cactus only has one such feature as that. Is this an offset? Any help would be appreciated and thank you for your time.

Do you have a picture? It depends on what kind of cactus it is. Some grow offsets from the areoles (Thelocactus) and other make offsets from the tubercle apex (Mammillaria) and of course there is everything in between!
Disclaimer: I'm in sunny Arizona, so any advice I give may not apply in your circumstances.
