Has something been eating the tops off your reichenbachii?

I saw a large opossum gnawing on one of my Opuntia one night, it was the largest opossum I have ever seen. It was crazy to see it standing on a few pots munching the top of a pad. Shocked

Also rats and mice will eat cacti.

I had a friend tell me his cat ate some seedlings but I do not know about larger cacti.

Now comes the hard part of repotting them all and not getting any glochids! Mad

I don't think that C. fulgida mammilatas have glochids,(at least mine doesn't) they do have spines tho! I can pick up the segments of mine without gloves cafefully and I haven't gotten one yet, but then maybe mine are different. BTW it's neat that yours has a lot of new growth and some of them are cresting too. Mine cutting hasn't crested yet... I am waiting til next year.

(edit) Oh yeah I almost forgot, it's nice to see growth on all of your cacti they look happy Smile

Well, I'm pretty sure mine due, but I might be wrong. I'll look closely, but I am not going to go out of my way to find out. Wink Laughing
Thanks!

YES!!! My cat loves cactus of all sizes! but especially smaller ones. He also loves the succulent plants on the windowsill. Evil or Very Mad Hes an inside cat so he cant get to my greenhouse, but when he gets a chance he will eat whatever plant is sitting by the window. Mad

Ouch! That could be a painful meal! Maybe it will teach the animal a lesson to not do it again. I don't think it could be a rat or a mouse because the tops are chewed off down in the plant a little ways. And I don't see any teeth marks. Which makes me think it is some sort of bug, maybe?

Would ants do that? Occasionally I have ants that try and make a mound inside the greenhouse.
