I noticed this one 'keiki' ( plantlet) growing on the inflorescence of my Gasteraloe 'Royal Highness.' I didn't know they did this, or at least not on this plant anyway. Cereusly, Tony

Did the inflorescense break off above that point?
Someone told me (maybe Buck?) that if you break off the flowers on some plants that grow a long inflo, that it may produce a pup on the stem like that. _________________ Tony

That one does it a lot. Something in its genes I guess. I've been told that when there is one plantlet on the bloom stalk it is known as a "proliferation". We get a few on most varieties of haworthias as well. Not always, just a few. _________________ Buck Hemenway |

This plant can create bulbils on spent inflorescences as seen below. The inflorescence stalk will not dry up while they are there. They can be removed when they are large enough to root easily.

Brad, thanks for that picture, this is a first for me with a succulent plant. I've seen this often on Phalaenopsis orchids. Tony |

Brad that is cool. Bubils are something that I didn't know existed until about 6 months ago, or maybe a little less. One of my Agave's bloomed and send out bubils and there are also a few of the pups that survived while the main agave is dead now.
I am starting to find the non-cactus succulents more and more interesting as I learn more about them. _________________ Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti. |
