I could be wrong, but I thought crested cacti were supposed to be slower growers than their 'normal' counterparts?

I don't know if they are any slower then regular ones. The mother plant and my baby of the C. fulgida var mammillata cristate are all growing like crazy right now. They must really like the hot drier weather. (we did get rain last night)
I think it might depends on the species as well. I am pretty sure that a crested saguaro takes as long to get it's arms, if it gets any at all as a regular one does.
