I have been watching your progress. It looks good! :thumbright: I fully expect the bed to expand and creep out of it's bounds in a year or so.

Good luck and good growing!! :D

WOW what a differance since the last time these cacti and succulents got ready for winter..
Last yr they didnt get ready for winter till Nov. this yr there already preparing for a long winter, pads shriveling and laying over, hens & chicks already have the TIGHT winter growth and just starting to color up. I have already removed alot of the succulents that wont take our cold nights or winter months, wont cover with pine needles till end October or unless we get snow fall befour then..

Heres how they look now.. Not much to look at this time of yr.. LOL!! :P

Next spring im adding more hens & chicks and also repotting the ones out there into WAY bigger pots, would still love to add more opuntias and other cold hardy cacti and succulents..

You'll be expanding that bed before you know it! Hope you get tons of flowers next season too.

Looks great! Amazing to see everything getting ready for the cold! It seems so early compared to here.

I bet removing all those pine needles after last winter was a project!

haha, funny, but my O. humifusa (I have one left now, darn pig got into my Opuntia garden, long story) but it didn't shrivel up until after we got the really cold days in Feb. It was confused and took off about mid March.. when it finally got warm.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.

Pine needles dropping off the trees soon its time to collect the pine needles to cover the cacti garden once again..

Its hasnt been this cold so early in the season for some time i think we are in for a early winter. Had to run the furnace in the house several times already over the past 2 weeks.

John it was a real pain in the arse to uncover them from the pine needles but it was a nice day out and gave me a chance to sit there and clean it all off even though few needles got left behind.. :P YES I SURE DID GET POKED a few times.. LOL!! :D

Ok once again heres what it looks like spring, although we still have lots snow on the ground this hill side always melts first as its in full sun most the day. The mother hens bloomed last yr and died back and now theres just some chicks left to start over plus i took lots chicks to pot up for folks that come here. Anyways placed some random pads in there last mid summer and the santa rita took off put out 2 tiny pads theres one on the right big pad and one on the left with the 2 tiny pads, then some other opuntia pads i just figured heck with it lets see if they make it thru the winter, i did not cover the garden with pine needels as i was to busy with everything else and didnt get to it befour snow fell so there is 2 pads with ice tip damage not bad as there still alive, then theres 2 pads with chipmunck chew spots rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr  hes history ol trustworthy 22. LOL!! But they all look ok for now, will put some more odds and ends opuntia pads in there this yr and see how they do over winter but this time will get the pine needels back on them befour snow flies.
