Good evening all,

I struggled a bit to ID this Stapelia obducta, as I caught it as it just opened (before it takes on its more usual shape with the petals folded back). This is another example of a Stapeliad that I discovered between "assorted succulents" at a nursery. The last photo is an example of an older Stapelia obducta in my collection.

Beautiful pictures and of course the flower. It looks like it's been out to "hair and makeup" it's so perfect.

PS Martin, besides Silver Hill (which I like) are there any SA sources of Stapeliad seed? I've got about 10 species now, and am anxious to build up my collection. In return I can either pay or trade carnivorous plant seeds and "gemmae", which are easily mailed plant clones.

Hi Tim,

The few nurseries that do sell Stapeliads here, mainly sell cuttings and small plants. The best source for Stapeliad seeds is the International Asclepiad Association http://www.asclepiad-international.org . You have to join the association, and they send a seed list out every 3 months.
