Trouble with my cacti need fast help( Mammillaria)

Post by Mike K »

Dear friends I purchased a mammillaria spinosissima"haagenana" I think this is correct. From AZ in 2008. It has thrived and grown slowly until recently? I live in redondo beach CA. area, :( a few miles from the ocean zone 10 i beleive.

The symptoms are a fold or crease has formed half way up the plant at the 3" level. The plant is bending towards this crease? It is about 2/3 of the diameter of my cacti long, and approx. 1/2" wide by 3/8" deep. There looks like a redish to brownish color in this area but with this type of plant it is hard to see. We have had lots of rain and cold temps. lately I just dont know what to do? Thank you for your help. Mike

Is it soft near where it's bending? It sounds like it may be rot. Pictures would be a big help.

Mike,
It does indeed sound like rot. :?

A picture would help us diagnose it better, but especially with recent cold/wet you guys had, it does add up. Did you check the "Pests" page yet to compare some of the pictures there?

I think anything North of San Diego (Maybe up to Oceanside?) is a "touchy" zone 10. Clearly an easy Zone 9, but not a solid 10.
