Echinopsis "Haku jo"....

Post by MichaelCactus »

I was wondering, has anyone got one that has flowered?
During this last summer, when i purchased the plant, it seemed that it kept aborting flower buds.

I googled the plant but couldnt find a photo of an actual Haku Jo flowering ( i admit i didnt look too hard)

Someone here just recently (last week?) posted some pic of their's blooming. Not too common to have this one bloom normally.

yeah, mine flowered. once. once out of about 30 aborted buds.
flowering from a reverted (non-felted) rib is not that uncommon though, but mine flowered from a felted rib.

The more I think about this the more I suspect that these aborted buds are actually opening as extremely deformed, petalless flowers. My plant's still a small rooted offset so I'm not in a position to say but it would be interesting to know if those with these seemingly aborted buds could keep a close eye on them as they grow and pull them apart once they seem to abort.

So what would cause the abortion of buds so frequently?
If mine looks like that CP, I'll be wrapped.
As i read in the topic Saguaro linked me to, it's a shame that it is sterile, i have a few Echinopsis i would have like to mix it with.
