Growth Habits: Clumping globose cactus, up to 2.5 inches in diameter (6 cm)

Scientific name: Matucana krahnii.

Common names: None.

Synonym: Borzicactus krahnii, Matucana calliantha

Etymology: Matucana Named after the small Peruvian town 50 miles east of Lima, where they grow at 6,000-13,000 feet
Named after Wolfgang Krahn, a well known plantsman from Stutgart.

Origin: Amazonas, Peru

Light: Good light but not severe sunlight.

Compost: A free draining standard cactus mix.

Water: Regular water in spring to autumn allowing soil to dry between waterings, keep dry in winter.

Flower: Deep red and lilac.

Min temp: Minimum temperature of 10° C (50° F), but may survive a light frost.

Comments. Remains quite a small plant, well worth growing for its vividly coloured flowers.
