Growth Habits: Columnar plant solitary or branching from the base

Scientific name; Cleistocactus strausii

Common names: Silver Torch Cactus.

Synonym: Cereus strausii, Borzicactus strausii, Pilocereus strausii, Denmoza strausii

Etymology: Cleistos. From the Greek, meaning closed. As in the genus Cleistocactus whose flowers seldom fully open.
Strausii - For Strauss

Origin: Mountain regions of Southern Bolivia and Northern Argentina.

Light: Full sun to light shade.

Compost. A free draining standard cactus mix.

Water: Regular water in spring to autumn.

Flower: Flowers red to crimson hardly opening

Min temp: Hardy to 25°F (-4°C), for short periods.will not survive in an unheated environment in the UK

Cultivation: Easy to grow columnar plant, if grown well will exceed 1 metre in a few years.
