Growth Habits: Solitary or slowly clumping, flattened or globose cactus, up to 4 inches tall (10 cm), 3 inches in diameter (8 cm)dark green in colour with few spines.

Scientific name; Echinocereus knippelianus.

Common names: Peyote Verde.

Synonym: Echinocereus knippelianus ssp. reyesii, Echinocereus knippelianus ssp. kruegeri Echinocereus liebnerianus Echinocereus inermis Cereus knippelianus.

Etymology: From the Greek echino = hedgehog cereus from the Latin meaning candle.
knippelianus Named to honour Carl Knippel.

Origin: Mexico, Sierra Madre Mountains (Coahuila, Nuevo Leon) at over 2200 m elevation.

Light: Full sun to light shade.

Compost. A free draining standard cactus mix.

Water: Regular water in spring to autumn.

Flower: Flower colour is white to pink,up to 6 cm (2.4inch) diameter.

Min temp: Hardy to 10°F (-12°C), for short periods.

Cultivation: Easy to grow and remains quite a small plant.

Habitat. Grows in the semi shade of rocks and trees in the high mountains above 7000ft (2200)m.

Comments: keep dry in winter to prevent tuberous roots from rotting and water with a weak (1\2 strenth) fertilizer in summer.
