Growth Habits: Small clumping plant, stems 1 1\2 inches to 2 inches [3 to 5cm].

Scientific name; Rebutia oligacantha.

Common names: None known.

Synonym: Weingartia oligacantha, Sulcorebutia oligacantha, Sulcorebutia tarijensis, Weingartia tarijensis, Sulcorebutia sanguineotarijensis, Weingartia sanguineo-tarijensis.

Etymology: Sulcorebutia: The generic name is from the Greek sulcus, meaning furrow and refers to the furrows or grooves that occur between the somewhat tuberculate ribs.
"tarijensis" named after the region Tarija in Bolivia.

Origin: Bolivia (Tarija).

Light: Full sun to light shade.

Compost. A free draining standard cactus mix.

Water: Regular water in spring to autumn.

Flower: Dark red.

Min temp: hardy to -7C (20F)

Cultivation: As with most Sulcorebutia, quite an easy plant to grow and will need repotting every 2 or 3 years as the clump gets bigger.

Comments: There is much speculation about the Rebutia, Sulcorebutia and Weingartia group. DNA testing has only added to the mix. The future may see the return of the genus Aylostera along with Rebutia and Weingartia.
