O. Humifusa in Connecticut

That's a great find. Some of the shy ones must be hiding out in the underbrush. But when you do find one in the open, they know how too strut their stuff!!

No doubt about that O. humifusa! Cool to see them in habitat. Ray, I'm glad your search had a happy ending!

Long time update to this old thread but I larked out the truth. Turns out that this is NOT a native wild patch of Opuntia humifusa. I found some guys blog and he proudly had a picture of himself and this cactus that he admits putting here in the early 1990's. So anybody finding this topic through internet searches or those seeing my pictures of it in the Cactiguide plant picture guide should know that this particular location is NOT a wild Connecticut plant.

There are, supposedly, some native clumps around. Here's an article talking about them.

Do you know if they need unrelated plants to set fruit? I'm going to have to hit up somebody for a clone. I know there's a dude in Killingly that has a big clump. Or maybe I could hit you up for a cutting.
