The children's zoo here in town has a small section of cacti on display.

I like what i see- ferocacti, opunitia engelmanii , pahycereus pecten-aborigum, the euphorbias and the pachypodium, the various cerei, the aloe.... but the fly in the ointment is that some specimens are etiolated, and some are just not photogenic at all(like the opuntia in photo 1).

Very nice collection. I particularly like the ferocacti.
It's interesting to see how they cope with the Nebraska weather. Are they exposed to frost?
There are more cacti in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

I'm not sure. I have a feeling it gets covered up for the winter though. The zoo itself is only open spring through fall.

the probably make some kind of polytunnel arond the cacti or something, either that, or they wrap them up or something.

I guess they dig them out and evacuate to a heated place for the winter. Not en easy task but some places practice this way.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

I guess that answers that.
Good evening, Toadstar!
Our horticulturalist at the Zoo does move all of the plants that are not winter hardy inside to care for them indoors.
Thank you! Please let me know if you have any other questions.
