best places to see/buy cacti San Diego CA...Joshua tree

Hello all,

I am taking a quick trip to San Diego and Joshua tree Nat. Park.
Never been before and was wondering if yall could suggest any nurseries or places to visit!

Cabrillo national monument - Bergerocactus emori, slopes below the lighthouse parking. Also Ferocactus viridescens
Torrey Pines State reserve - Ferocactus viridescens

From San Diego I would recommend driving to Anza Borrego Stat park - Cactus Trail is well worth the visit, and plains East of it are also amazing. And closer and warmer than JTree park. You will see some Cylindropuniya californica forest on the way.

I can't offhand say if it has a lot of cacti (I wasn't into cacti when I lived in San Diego.) but the botanical garden in Balboa park is free to the public and I doubt you would regret going there.

It's an wonderful idea,

even the middle of winter is maybe not the best time. And don't forget to share interesting things from that trip with us please.

hello again everyone.
I spent a 2 days in joshua tree and a few days in San Diego proper.

I was very surprised to find all the ferocactus among the rocks at Joshua tree... you have to get off the beaten path a bit.

Other pics are from the cactus garden by the Zoo.

my friend was willing to pose for scale. ha
