Cylindropuntia hybrid?

Post by GermanStar »

From the Picacho Mountains near Florence, AZ, we found this bad boy today:

The area is thick with C. acanthocarpa and C. fulgida, and I wonder if this might be a cross. Any opinions?

Here is a bloom shot of C. fulgida. Pretty flower...

Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

One would need close up photos of flower, fruit and stems to make a call on whether it is a hybrid or not. I would not want to run into it in the dark!!!
