For us, desert King snakes are harmless and beneficial, keeping down the rodent population -- and rattlesnakes. Some are frequent visitors and become almost tame and can be picked up and gently handled:

Very cool. I always liked Tucson used to visit when ever I could when I worked in Phoenix AZ.

My friend did this shot some time ago when I was looking for wild cacti, few meters away. SE Alberta.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

I wonder if this bird is looking for the snake ? Got pretty close he didn't want to move very intent on something in the bush.

A mojave green rattle snake the most venomous rattler in the USA . Antelope valley looking at the poppy fields were it was 40 mph winds and cold.

Its always windy out there in the spring. Saw a few Opuntias basalaris and joshua trees. and millions of poppies all closed up against the wind.
