The latest trip, funded in part by a generous research grant from the CSSA, involved some intense botanizing on Isla Cedros and a bit of a crazy trip to Angel de la Guarda. I continue to research the island endemic assemblages in the family Cactaceae for the PhD dissertation I'll eventually be writing, so a trip to Cedros was indispensable. The trip to Angel de la Guarda, we had hoped to get around to the east side of the island to see the well known and often visited population of Ferocactus johnstonianus there, but strong north winds made that impossible this time. The boat captain, Ricardo Arce (who I recommend enthusiastically) mentioned having taken Japanese, Polish, German, British, American, South American, Czech and Australian tourists to see F. johnstonianus in the past few years.
We were only able to reach the western side of the island at Arroyo Este Ton. We hiked for several hours there, looking for a 1960 report of johnstonianus from that locale from Reid Moran, to no avail. We returned through 6 foot swells and were very glad to get back to Bahía de Los Angeles in one piece, even if we were soaked to the skin.
The whole trip was great as always and I can't wait to get back.

With apologies to the late Professor C. D. Darlington the following misquotation springs to
