Nursery going down hill!

I think I've seen healthier plants at my local Home Depot.

Shame realy . Looks like there's some nice plants there with some age. Just dont look like they are getting the love they need.

Some nurseries plant them into a purpose made enviroment , under glass of course.

I was so close to buying that Cereus that was starting to turn yellow which i think means that its loosing its roots, but I remembered I didn't have the room.

It's a sad sight to see. I recently stopped at a small mom and pop roadside nursery when I was out of town for work. Their focus was mostly flowers and vegetable starts, but their sign mentioned cacti as well. When I asked they took me out back where their cacti green house was. They had some pretty amazing specimens in their not-for-sale collection, as well as a fairly large (20+yr I believe) "tree" opuntia (not sure of the species). Sadly a lot of stuff was dieing, falling over or in serious need of repotting. I guess the husband had been pretty into cacti collecting, but due to a series of health issues is no longer able to get out there to attend to them. His wife does what she can to keep them going, but isn't much of a cactus fan so only does so much.
I ended up spending the evening drinking beers with the husband and one of their seasonal helpers, pretty neat guy though he did breakdown a few times over not being able to care for his cacti as well as other general life hardships. Wish I didn't live more than seven hours away, otherwise I would have volunteered to come visit occasionally and help with some cacti maintenance.
