US VIrgin Islands
Hello, here are a few pics of cacti I thought I'd share from the US Virgin Islands. Sorry, again I don't know what they are. I'm not even sure that they are native actually... but there were a lot of them around the shorelines. There were whopper iguanas climbing all around the vegetation... I even saw some crawling over the cacti:)

Whatever the cacti are, nice pics!
A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

I may have to head down to the USVI. Looks beautiful, and I do love exploring that area!
It’s not the fall that kills you; it’s the sudden stop at the end.

Hello! Awesome pics! I would say that those are Pilosocereus royenii - which is the most prominent cactus in the Caribbean and runs rampant on many of the islands. Not sure about the Opuntiad, but it looks a bit like O. ficus-indica - which I'm sure can be found there.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti

think it's Opuntia (nopalea) cochenifera or something like that. If it is a true Opuntia maybe O. tomentosa? At least those appear to be the closest that I have. I think the pads are too think for O.ficus-indica
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
Re: US VIrgin Islands
Could the opontiad be Consuela falcata?? They colonie nearby Carribean Islands. I have a 10 inch seeling on my screened lanai. Since I live in zone 9B I won't attempt to plant outside I will have to keep it small. Bobby Z

Dunno, my C. falata is very spiny. And yeah I can't grow it outside. The Opuntiad in the picture looks like a Nopalea (which are lumped with Opuntia now)

Whatever the opontiads are called, the VI are paradise. It has been several years since I visited so I should do it again soon sip some Crzan rum and wait to see the green flash on the Carribean as the sun goes down. The sunset on palm trees and cacti are paradise for us eastcoasters as Hawaii is too far to travel for now. Bobby Z

Hmmmm. Interesting thoughts. I wonder is that "too far" of yours any closer than mine?BobbyZ wrote: The sunset on palm trees and cacti are paradise for us eastcoasters as Hawaii is too far to travel for now.
