Pet Plants Anyone?

Post by olmpiad »

Apparently, these are a new "craze" in Europe. They are little cacti in an acrylic tube, with a growing medium at the bottom, and are about the size of a AA battery. You water them by soaking in water. Kind of interesting if you ask me!

Hmm. I'll bet that there's probably a variety or two which you could seal in air tight so no moisture ever escaped and it would live on indefinitely.

I'd be happy if someone gave me one so I could take it out, repot it and grow it! 8)

daiv,
I was thinking of a different approach, I was thinking of removing the plant, sterilizing everything, and using it to grow an extremely sensitive plant (from seed) like an Aztekium. An enclosed biodome like that would probably actually do pretty well.

Well seeds are reletively cheap, so there isn't much to loose in the experiment!

Blossfeldias are another possibility... they would never out grow the tube. :)

The 1st thing i thought when i saw that was, take it out and plant it, but maybe it wouldnt live?
When i had Hermit Crabs, i remember reading, at Wallmart, they have platic cups with some sand in them, and a hermit crab. I was on a forum reading about it, people were disguisted because the crabs didnt have anything close to the conditions they need, and most would die from neglect while waiting to be bought, this is exactly the same.

would make an interesting keychain. Its kind of cute. And then when its gets too big, repot it and you have yourself a cactus. Good gift, I say, just pack it with a 'cactus care' guide.
