Opuntia against diabetes!

Post by Shmuel »

Was checking something for a friend and this popped up. The quote below is from http://www.diabetes.co.uk/Diabetes-herbal.html This website is a legitimate public health site and not some flakey snake oil miracle cure site. The quote follows:
Opuntia streptacantha

Opuntia streptacantha (nopal) is commonly known as the prickly-pear cactus in the arid regions where it grows. Inhabitants of the Mexican desert have traditionally employed the plant in glucose control. Intestinal glucose uptake may be affected by some properties of the plant, and animal studies have found significant decreases in postprandial glucose and HbA1c. Once again, to validate the prickly-pear cactus as an effective means of aiding diabetic patients, long-term clinical trials are needed.
I would caution against using this as a miracle cure, but there is more going on in natural remedies than we know. Anyway, I thought it would be of interest for the site.

May you all enjoy great health and not need any cures!

Yes, very cool. We probably all know someone with Diabetes and know what a drag it is. It would be so cool if Cactus turned out to really be good for it.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
