Not that bad. . .
K.W.
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Very nice. Are the Eriosyce and Ariocarpus on their own roots?
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
I bought the Eriosyce aurata as a grafted plant, and de grafted it about 10 years ago, it rooted quite easily
It's very rare in cultivation
The Ariocarpus has always been on it's own roots
The Onzuka was also originally grafted, then de grafted and rooted

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Is the name tag correct? Mt. Girl? Flowered today, mislabeled or not, great flower.
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
That is one perfect "Mt. Girl"
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
It's nice to have a rainy day once in awhile
so you can catch up on all the many indoor projects that need attention
And for me, that's sitting on the computer and posting photos
Can I say it's my favorite plant?
The most interesting cactus?
Hard to describe how much I love this species (but of course I love many others)
Astrophytum caput medusa
big plant last summer 3 1/2 year old seedlings
in a 2 1/2 inch pot Such fat roots for an Astrophytum I grafted a couple 2 years ago from the same seedling batch Last summer's seedling batch
I sowed some last April and they didn't do very good, they do better if sowed June/July The possible A. caput medusa x hybrid seedling.
This is not the same as the "Onzuka x caput medusa pollen hybrids", which used the pollen to pollinate other hybrids. A mystery plant, it could be nothing special,
Number one priority is to keep it alive, it just started growing again after the short winter along with the other seedlings

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
I got a new job in December and have to work a lot more hours
so my life isn't the old bliss of few hours of work and many hours of cacti joy anymore
I hope to go part time soon so I can go back to the blissful lifestyle.
so hence, little time for photos.
But here are some from last month
Eriosyce aerocarpa Mammillaria magnifica Sulcorebutia raushii, Cherry Bomb, grafted Discocactus crystallophilus My Echinopsis hybrid "Mt. Girl"
one of the mother plants Some Echinopsis hybrid seedlings with their first flowers
That pink one and the red one are rejects, so I'll just have to throw them away
The left plant has smaller flowers than my mother plant, but I will just call it a Mt. Girl and hope no one complains

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
I'm just about to give up on Yavia crytocarpa
Just too much disappointment
You get your hopes up for a nice plant, maybe some flowers!
and the next you look, it has split into something no one wants to look at

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Not many flowers can match Echinocereus rubispinus
I repotted it last year, so it may have slowed down for that year A friend traded this awesome pinecone for one of my spiny pinecones
No roots yet, and it doesn't care, why not flower!
Tephrocactus geometricus This weird mutant growth just started on this monstrose Mammillaria crinita
It looks alittle like "Fred"
I'll have to compare the new measurement of 16 1/2 inches to the last measurementI repotted it last year, so it may have slowed down for that year A friend traded this awesome pinecone for one of my spiny pinecones

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
If I came upon this flower, I would say Thelocactus,
but what do I know, it's a Echinocactus horizonthalonius
This is a wild collected plant that was barely hanging in there for years.
I put it in a small pot and inside the hot box then it finally came back to life.
I think it may be established now
