Winter on my windowsill

Post by jp29 »

Actually this group is staged just adjacent to my bedroom south facing windowsill for photographing convenience.

Two Mature Melocactus matanzanus, over-wintering Discocactus horstii, Discocactus buenekeri and Melocactus matanzanus seedlings. Right front - Arrojadoa Dinae in bud and ready to flower. Right rear - Pereskia portulacifolia rooted cutting as a bonsai.

How hard is it to grow Arrojadoa from seeds and maintain them?

All species are easy to grow, either from seed or cuttings. They all produce colorful flowers and fruit in great abundance. Most species are frost tender, but I have grown A. Dinae and A. Rhodantha in unheated greenhouses and on my patio where they often experience light frost (albeit in very dry conditions with the following day being sunny and temps in the 50-60 F range) with no problems.

I don't have to worry about frost myself. Your flowers prompted me to think about growing them
