I am now restricted (due to physical infirmities) to growing my cacti on windowsills, balconies and patios. I grow all of my plants in 2" (5cm) or 2¾" (7cm) square plastic pots. Here are some selected species I grow.
Pereskia portulacifolia:
Arrojadoa dinae:
Frailea castanea:
Discocactus horstii:
Discocactus buenekeri:

Growing cacti on windowsills & patios 2017
Re: Growing cacti on windowsills & patios 2017
Advancing years are beginning to catch up with me and I now have difficulty walking and keeping my balance, so I cultivate miniature species in containers in such a way that they will be easy to maintain and carry. This is of particular importance in following my winter maintenance regime which involves staging my plants indoors on south facing window sills at night (when the outside temperatures are sometimes below freezing) and during cold days, and carrying them outside to the patio for the benefits of sunshine and fresh air during the 60°F+ (approx. 16°C+) days that we frequently experience during our Tucson winters. Therefor the cacti that I cultivate here at our retirement Town Home are small plants mostly growing in 2" (5cm) and 2¾" (7cm) square plastic pots.
The cacti that I grow are those that can be easily propagated via cuttings or freely produced offsets and that do not requiring a cold winter rest in order to produce flowers.
I stage my plants on windowsills using kitchen-drawer silverware trays (shown below) for ease of carrying.

Good evening James,
it's wonderful to read something from you!
I hope You, Beverly and the cacti "guys" are well!
I had a hard year since I was in Tucson in April.
Now it is better.
Wish You all the best,
K.W.

I have added an Opuntiad cultivar (O.rufida derivative?) to my plant selection:
The kitchen-drawer silverware trays I use for ease of carrying accommodate four plants in 2 .75" (7cm) square plastic pots -- the most I can safely carry now.

This is very nice James. Any hints on growing the Brazilians here in Tucson?
