Re: A poor college student's growing journal
Thank you Harald! I meant to reply much earlier but exams got in the way.
The camera I used is nothing fancy: my iPhone. I do have a professional camera, but I do not have the macro lens demanded by the type of photos I wished to take. I appreciate experienced growers dropping by this thread to check out my measly collection.
Anyways, here's a small update
Rebutia Steinmannii var. chrinstinae adjusted well in the new pot and is producing buds.
So is my grafted Mammiallaria theresae, there are quite a few flowers in development but they are too camera shy.
Last but not least, this is the first acquisition of 2017 - Pygmaeocereus bieblii. I was pleased to have found a mature specimen with buds.

Some group shots and closeups...enjoy
Rebutia steinmannii christinae
Mammillaria theresae
The night before...
Today
Side by side...flower morphologies are surprisingly similar
You will probably say I take too many pictures of the same plants, but how could i stop?

Well, do not worry about posting several photos of the same plant(s). You are not alone when it comes to having this habit. I just get too excited and photograph the plant from all different angles and distances. Also, if you do not have a huge collection, like KB, Handazo, etc. it is very hard to show continually different plants.
Your plants look healthy and produce beautiful flowers. What else can you hope for? I do love your Mammillaria theresae. Supposedly, it is a cactus, which is not easy to grow. That is the reason, why a lot of times this cactus species is grafted onto a different root stock.
I have tried twice, to keep Mammillaria hernandezii alive for a year, but have not been successful with that undertaking. M. theresae, whether grafted or not, would most likely have experienced the same fate.

Oops, I goofed! I should have said: "K.W., Hanazono, Craig Fry, etc.". Those fellows do have huge collections. Mine, with less than 200 plants - and many of those present in multiple numbers - does not compare to these. As a result, I cannot post anything but a small fraction of their output.

Keep going, there is no reason to stop.
I like Your photos very much - and the plants!
Best wishes

Re: A poor college student's growing journal
Thank you Harald and K.W. for your kind words.
Meanwhile, here's the tiny haul from the 2017 Toronto C&S Club Annual Show
Eriosyce senilis
Mammillaria carmenae
Ariocarpus retusus
It's okay, it's only a matter of time that I acquire their entire collections, once they are retired...Also, if you do not have a huge collection, like KB, Handazo, etc. it is very hard to show continually different plants.

It took a while but my mature lithops have finally completed leaf change. Two of them have divided, adding two more plants to the pot

I love red flowers on cacti !! They look so not pretty without them, but with the red color they are just the most beautiful

Re: A poor college student's growing journal
Long time no talk CactiGuide, here's a July update on the Pygmaeocereus bieblii, with mounting anticipation...
I had some trouble getting everything in focus, perhaps I shouldn't use a macro lens
close up to one of the buds, it said no to wax...
