Hi, awesome Pelecyphora aselliformis. any tips on rooting them. What kind of substrate do you use? Do you use acidified water while rooting them? What’s the best time to root them? I had luck with astrophytum’s but so far failed rooting ariocarpus retusus and pelecyphora aselliformis.
Thank you in advance

G'morning Kaktusmann,

The substrate is pumice.
Top 20 mm of soil is pumice only remained is 40% organic base cactus-mix and 60% pumice.

I do not use acidified water.
I use rainwater, PH is around 7.0.

Early spring is the best season for the rooting.
I assume in April in your place.

Both P. aselliformis and Ariocarpus are easy to root.
I do not know the detail method of degrafting but I think you have to review the degrafting.

It is 1st flowering of Ariocarpus in this season.
Although it will be 34 'C in the afternoon today, a young Ariocarpus bravoanus v hintonii was in flower in the morning.
This degrafted one is still very young, 2 years old.

A more fissuratus f Big Bend
Seeds were sown in 2003 and several seedlings were grafted on Hylocereus stocks.
They were degrafted later.
The photo is one of them, 20 cm in diameter.

Good morning Frank,

what wonderful plants!
If I see them, then I know again for what we do the whole effort.

Thank you!

Best wishes

G'morning K.W.

Thanks for your comment.
An ariocarpus retusus cv Shinkawa tama zouge has pushes flowering buds up.
This cultivar has longer tubercles than that of standard form.
