Three-headed Mammillaria Duwei

Post by ChrisDickinson »

Is three-headed normal?

Sown from seed 23-02-2014, germinated ten days later, repotted 10-02-2016, photos 10-02-2016 & 13-02-2016.

Thank you,
Chris

It is normal for a cactus that somehow lost its apical meristem to sprout around the tip. The number of sprouts will vary with species, of course, and since M. duwei forms clumps it's not surprising that three showed up.
Z, in (mostly) sunny Lisbon.

Thank you. Much appreciated.

I've been having an online read of 'apical meristem', so that's a good result. This was the most vigorous of the M. Duwei that germinated, so I was partly wondering why this happened.
