Origin of red-flowering Astrophytum asterias?

Post by BarryRice »

Hey guys,

So I adore Astrophytum asterias, I breed them vigorously, and am trying to get a red-flowering Superkabuto from my crosses. But what I'd like to know is, where did the red-flowering variety come from? Is this something that ev0lved naturally in the wild, or is this purely the result of horticultural shenanigans?

Here are a few of my plants I gathered up today, as they were flowering...

I'll grow it as long as it doesn't have glochids. Gaudy flowers a plus.
