Bob's Cactus Collection 2015
Hi! My name is Bob Lunsford and I am new to the list but certainly not new to growing cactus. As you can see Cleistocactus is my favorite variety but I grow all kinds of cactus. I live in Chula Vista, CA, which is just a few miles southeast of San Diego. My plants are all grown outdoors in a small corner of my backyard. I would like to share the flowers my plants produce as I feel its a waste to be seen by my eyes only and not to be shared by as many folks as possible. I'm good friends with frequent contributor Minime8484 and I hope to know the rest of you soon. I also hope you enjoy these pictures and feel free to comment if you think a plant is misidentified as I certainly am not perfect with names. These pictures are from January. I'll follow up with more current flowers as time allows.
Enjoy!
Bob
Enjoy!
Bob

Re: Bob's Cactus Collection 2015
Yeah!! Welcome to cactiguide, Bob!! Great start to your year I see!
Of course, the Cleistocactus tupizensis is great, I also really love that Mammillaria hutchisoniana - even without flowers, it is really a nice-looking plant with great spines.
Looking forward to seeing a lot more photos in the coming months with lots more Cleistocactus!

Beautiful! And, that Cleistocactus sulcifer bloom is splendid! How large is the plant itself?
Mine is still a tiny thing....but, yours makes me anxious for it to get growing.

Welcome Bob! I look forward to your superb photographs of your equally superb plants with great anticipation. That Melocactus curvispinus is as nice a specimen as I have ever seen of that species.

Re: Bob's Cactus Collection 2015
James,
Thanks for the kind words. I wish I could take full credit for growing that Melocactus curvispinus but in fact that is a recent purchase from our local growing expert Juergen Menzel. His collection makes mine look pretty sick At least some of the other plants pictured have been in my collection for nearly 20 years.
Thanks again!

Re: Bob's Cactus Collection 2015
Tristan,
That Cleistocactus sulcifer comprises of 3 branches, each about 18 inches long. 2 of them are erect while the other snakes around my other plants. It was a single stem around 6 inches long when I obtained this plant around 2000. The first round of flowers for this plant is ending soon but there should be another 1-2 rounds later in the season.

Supreme show, Bob, flowers and spines always inspires me. And I'm seriously envy all californians for been able to turn their back or front yard into desert garden and not provide lot of special care for cacti. And that nameless Mammillaria could be M. wiesingeri, I think.
If your cacti mess in your job just forget about the job.

George,
Yes, we are indeed lucky out here! I'll check out pictures of M. wiesingeri to see if we have a match.
Thanks,
Bob in Chula Vista
