In August the same players as before did the bloom.

Respecting the small pots. These are just 4 cm wide and almost usable - for rooting some cuttings or offsets, keeping tiny plants. But getting dry too fast (2 - 3 days max.) in my conditions.

Second bloom this summer! Didn't happen before.

Image
Last night the Discocactus bloom was caught on my camera.

And a Lophophora that made first flower just days ago.

Turbinicarpus swobodae with ripe fruit under the side September sun. The only self-pollinating species of the genus I know about.

Image
Some my seedlings of above species, 2 - 3 years old. Slow growing beasts. The pot is 5 cm wide.

Image
And a baggy I just opened some days ago - P. mammulosa seedlings ~ 1 month from germination. These ware fast. Started under the real Sun and now moved into the incubator for winter growing.

Thanks, Mark. Another baggy unsealed today after 2.5 months from seeds. Thought CO2 could be depleted inside already, some mould is seen as well - I decided they needed fresh air. The same species, just doing more seedlings from own seeds for fun. Growing too close and will need new pots soon obviously.

And a (1st!) promissing bud on my Fero latispinus. Even the Sun is so low and enters my windows for a short time now, I hope in some days to see a flower...

The Lophophora at the top of the page has to be the most picturesque one I've seen. It almost looks fake!

:D Well, it's real. The previous owner almost wasted it in a small pot with some bad soil. Now it recovered, scars went under ground, the top is growing flat and it started blooming.

Lovely, George. My F. latispinus buds every year since 2010 or 11 and it's never managed to open a single flower. :(

That Ferocactus flower lasted about 10 days. It's not the last, something like a bloom with this M. plumosa.

Really beautiful plants! Great to see what is achievable without a greenhouse in Canada :D Your garden is inspiring me to try some cold hardy seeds next year, as I have more balcony than windowsill space. I think I'll give the Escobaria vivipara a go, the pediocactus is intriguing too. Do you have any agaves in the garden?

Thanks, Iris,
No, I don't have any agaves outside now, no hardy enough for this climate. I have just some Yucca glauca plants that are under snow these days. :)

Do you think you will need real cold hardy species in Vancouver?
