Cuttings, offsets and seedlings rooting and growing on in a

Discocactus placentiformis (sensu latto) growing in plastic
containers in an outdoor plastic plant-box which proved to
be an environment that was too hot for optimum growth

Impressive series of very plump Discocactus! Must be amazing to see (smell!) them all bloom together!
Re: Windowsill and patio growing
It is getting harder for me to photograph Discocactus in flower these days Tristan -- I am usually asleep by the time the flowers open -- and not awake early enough the next morning to capture the flowers in full bloom. Any way, here are pics of a plant-box of Discocactus crystallophilus in afternoon bud, followed by "next morning" spent flowers:Minime8484 wrote:Impressive series of very plump Discocactus! James,
Those Discocactus placentiformis appear to be in perfect growing form to me. I cannot imagine what those plants would look like growing under optimum conditions. You certainly have a "green thumb" for these plants!

.......... but here are some pics of individual Discocactus placentiformis in flower -- as you say, Tristan -- intoxicating fragrance permeates the night air!

No other words seem to suffice.

Thanks, Bob. Not always a green thumb though.Cleistocrazy wrote:James,

Flowering Discocactus buenekeri (sensu latto) and Discocactus horstii

Mostly Discocactus horstii and Frailea castanea seedlings growing outdoors
under 30% shade cloth in 2¾" (7cm) square plastic pots maintained in a
plastic plant box. The pots become too hot in the blazing Arizona summer
sun when maintained this way -- I now only use wooden plant boxes.

Re: Windowsill and patio growing
Next week ushers out the last of winter in our northern hemisphere and ushers in the first day of Spring (the 20th of March) whereupon I will stage all of my plants outside under 30% shade cloth in wooden plant boxes (many have been outdoors for the past three weeks anyway).
Good bye to this ..........
.......... not to return until sometime in late October!

Your cactus look great!! I never tried that species always thought it was difficult... but you don't seem to be having any trouble.
