Your Pygmaeocereus look great!! The P. akersii doesn't look like mine, but then again, Pygmaeocereus is a confusing genus  .

Tristan,

I really like those flowers on Cleistocactus longiserpens. They remind me somewhat of C. samaipatanus yet are distinctly their own. That's also an impressive number of flowers on such a skinny stem! C. horstii has flowers much like C. baumannii but the stem is much more spiny. I also enjoyed the unique flowers of Stenocereus alamosensis.

Many thanks for sharing these plants and ALL the others too!

Thanks for posting all of those great photos, Tristan. Your outdoor gardens were full of superb -- and in many cases rare -- cacti that made for a spectacular display in early spring. They must be a sight to behold now that they are mostly in full flower.

Thanks Robb, James & Bob!

Been crazy busy lately, so haven't been able to snap as many photos lately (air conditioner died last week when we were hitting 115F for several days in a row...new one installed just this past Saturday!), but I did manage to work on and plant out my newest cactus bed - which I'm referring to as my Brazilian Cactus Garden #3 because most of the species in it are cacti from Brazil!
Here is a photo of it right after planting:

Had a near tragedy in my garden this week too...almost lost a beautiful Siccobaccatus dolichospermaticus that had been growing so well in-ground in my yard for years (was c. 12" tall). Recently noticed browning at the base, and Tuesday I finally bit the bullet and dug it up and sure enough for some reason it had started to rot. Had to cut the base until there was only 10" left...very sad. But, hopefully, that 10" cutting will root and grow rapidly.

Very sad, but at least I caught it before it got too far up the stem.

Now that is brutal. :!: #-o -- I don't know how you were able to survive those fearsome Phoenix nights -- not much sleep I would imagine.

A glimmer of hope: Should it not survive, Tristan, I will give you one of my juvenile plants to replace it. I have successfully rooted cuttings in the past.

Tristan,

This has been a tough plant for me to grow too. I never has one as tall as yours as they never made it that far. Hope the juvenile plants I have now will fare better!

Back from 10 days away...the thrashers wreaked havoc on my plants while I was gone...they will be the death of me.
A couple of flowers still popping up in the yard here and there.

This one opens fully at night only, so it's hard for me to get a good photo!

I know they are not grown for their flowers, but these are the first for me on a plant I've had for many years.
