Echinocereus flowers are great, why do things slow down at summer, do you mean it's too hot for the plants there?

Re: Minime8484's C&S Collection - 2014
The biggest season here for blooms is Spring and a smaller one in summer and late winter (depending on taxon).
The excessive heat through mid-summer causes a bunch of plants to just sit and go dormant until the weather cools off a bit, especially at night.
Still, there are various species (for example, Echinopsis/Trichocereus, Peniocereus, Echinocereus) that do bloom in small quantities throughout the summer.
Right now we are having a nice monsoon summer, so there is a bit of rainfall; that usually kicks some things into gear too.

Since many of your cacti are grown outside I can imagine that the rain is doing some good to them.

New project for this summer complete - a second smallish garden area I'm reserving (mostly) for Brazilian species.

New bloomer for me is this Frailea cardenasii.
Unfortunately, that does not seem to be a valid name. I have seen the name on lists several times, but it does not appear to be valid nonetheless. I've seen reference to "Frailea cardeansii (=?pseudograhliana", but that name too also seems to be invalid.
Any help on the true name of this taxon?

My first ever Discocactus flower opened last night!
Re: Minime8484's C&S Collection - 2014
Very nice Tristan, although the body form, spination and flower structure look more like Discocactus crystallophilus to me,

My annual Tucson Nursery run for my birthday was...shall we say...VERY successful:
And, this past weekend I noticed my unidentified Agave was starting to bloom:
Maybe the blooms will help with the ID after all these years!- Minime8484

Some Cleistocactus are still actively blooming with this one especially nice.

Very true, Tristan. I am looking forward to pictures of your Micranthocereus (densiflorus, polyanthus, streckeri) in flower -- starting in December?Minime8484 wrote:The biggest season here for blooms is Spring and a smaller one in summer and late winter (depending on taxon).

Good work. I bet that garden will look great next spring (which comes early in southern Arizona - with flower buds on some desert shrubs in late February).Minime8484 wrote:New project for this summer complete - a second smallish garden area I'm reserving (mostly) for Brazilian species.
