Not sure what the Fero is but it's a great looking plant.

F. stainesii (syn. pilosus) looks like a pretty good call to me, but I'm not a Fero expert either.

I think thats about as close as I am going to get without a Fero specialist telling me what it is.

Personaly I am happy with Stainesii , so I think I will write out a label for it now

.

Thanks for taking a look at it

Quite a few new plants in , and a lot of them Mammilaria.

One came from from the BCSS Bromley branch last month and is Mammilaria Microhelia
Another Mammilaria that has increased in size since watering , spination is brown and the flowers are white. This plant was bought at the same time with a Gymnocalycium that could be a young Gibbosum , but that remains to be seen. These two came from Capitol Garden centres at Morden Hall park

I lost the graft under one of my Rebutia plants that came from IKEA last winter , and I picked off the best off the pups and have started to try and get those on their own roots. They could be R. Heliosa. Since then I got two more rebut Grafts . One is starting to confuse me know because it looks very much like Sulcorebutia Raushcii , only it's not as dark and the aspiration is very slightly different. I also plucked the largest of the pups off this, and am trying to get these started on their own roots.

The second of the Rebutia Grafts is yet another R. Heliosa or similar type cactus , but the heads have reached a much bigger size. There might be more chance of this one surviving as it's a bit bigger

Then the other day after quite a gap I bought a group of three smaller plants in one of those plastic holders. IKEA doe the same, but you get a small painted stoneware pot with those ones.

I went through the rack and eventually settled on a trio of which there were three others similar. But the clincher was a Good small/med plant of Thelocactus Bicolor with flower bud in the mix. It was a case of he's gotta have it. You never see Thelocactus Bicolor around. I certainly haven't seen one in the local Garden Centres or once seen one in IKEA.

So I thought that was pretty impressive for B&Q :O

There is actualy a couple of buds visible on that one. So I have the bigger one that I got from a BCSS Bromley branch meeting last year , along with three other Thelos . Plus this smaller one now. I'm hoping sometime in the future they will flower together and I can get some good seed off the two plants.

The other two plants that came with it were a pretty average Cleistocactus ands a Mammilaria with light hooked spines and nice long petal purple flowers.

Need to get some pics of some of these plants and try and ID them.

.

Also there was a Gymnocalycium Quehlianum from a couple of months back from another BCSS Bromley branch raffle.

While I was out the other. I deeded to pay a visit to the usual place. They had some nice plants in this time

Low down in the dark I found a couple of quite big Stenocactus , and on dragging them out found them to have both had already flowered, probably in the Greenhouse where they were grown , before they got to the shelf. Bit gutted really =^~^=

The one that I picked out for Kim , had at least 7 dried up flowers on top. And of the two this one has the nicest spination, with a nice upright and wide central spine. The flower colour i'd guess was the Reddish side of purple , and Kim will now have to wait until next year now for new buds to form I should imagine.

I got a Steno from that location late last year and it has started to bloom , it has a nice deep purple strip in the middle of the petals , and has opened pretty much all the way , managing to work it's way round the aspiration at the top of the plant.

Kims new acquisition will need repotting out of the peaty crap that it is in at the moment, into a better mix and possibly into a porous terracotta or Mandel pot.

.

I picked up a very nice looking clump of Mammilaria. What attracted me to it was the small wine red flowers surrounded with wool, seemingly coming from nowhere in between the tubercles and spiralling . But I notice the flowers were almost over , so after much umm'ing and err'ing , I decided on a Parodia ( Notocactus ) that had at least 8 buds in a circle. Hopefully these will grow and bloom , before they make their way too far over the side and possibly dry out.

So this plant will go with the N. Buiningii and the N. Mammulosus . I feel another Noto Custom painted Mandel pot coming on very soon =^-^=

It's taken some time but I have finally got round to gathering my newest acquired plants and bunched them up. Minus a couple that were moved to the Allotment Greenhouse

So here they are =^_^=

Image

The Stenocactus on it's side is Kimberley's new cactus, she missed getting one of these in a raffle several BCSS ( bromley ) raffles ago. So she had her heart set on this one. The position it's in to show the Long spines and dried flowers off a bit better. This one needs repotting into better soil.

Then the Stenocactus that I got last year late, that is currently flowering

A Gymnocalycium from Capitol Garden centres ( Morden Hall park )

A Mammilaria Microhelia plant that came from the BCSS ( bromley ) raffle a couple of months ago

Small Pygmaeocereus Bylesianus that came from the BCSS ( bromley ) raffle last month

At the back is a bog standard Rebutia Heliosa grafted onto a Hylocereus graft. This is in and old IKEA Druva pot

echinopsis Subdenudata in a customised IKEA Mandel pot , with Sub written on the side. This cactus has nice bud developing on it. Cant wait really. Might even be two buds. This was also an IKEA purchase, as re the Mandel pots.

A Haworthia clump that I moved into a bigger pot , also from IEAK

A bog standard Rebutia Caniguerlii on Hylocereus graft , of which I think Ade recently got one himself. I have already taken the biggest pups off this and tried to stet them on their own roots.

In front of that is the [ R ] [ E ] [ S ] [ U ] [ L ] [ T ] Thelocactus Bicolor that I found at of all places ( B&Q ) ? !

The Cleistocactus came with the Thelocactus in a box of three plants , the Mammilaria that was with them was moved to the Allotment greenhouse . As was the Mammilaria that I bought with the Gymno at Capitol Garden centres ( Morden Hall park )

Parodia ( Notocactus ) or Notocactus ( Parodia ) Magnifica. I am going to give this plant another go , but I feel I may have over potted it and will probably move this one to the Allotment Greenhouse half of the collection.

Then last of all , the budding Parodia ( Notocactus ) that I bought yesterday.

.

There is also a small Gymnocalycium Quehlinum that I got from the BCSS ( Bromley ) raffle several months ago. But not in the pic.

.

.

=^_^=

Enjoy . . . .

Another one I missed.

A Gymnocalycium Pflanzi I bought two or three months ago at the local GC. This has since developed a bud on , and resides at the Allotment greenhouse.

Got a coupler mystery Mammilaria's . These two I moved to make a bit of space indoors, and are now over the allotment in the greenhouse.

The first one came from a GC and the second one from B&Q. If anybody could help I.D them would be appreciated muchly.

.

Image

I'm pretty sure this second one isn't M. Zeilmaniana , as it the flowers are the wrong shape and the hooks are more gold than Reddish/brown

.

Also this old cactus still needs an I.D

I know it's an Echinopsis , but I don't know which one. I'm thinking Spachiana

.

Thanks

Maybe the first is Mammillaria nejapensis. Second and third should be correct. :D

I checked out Mamm Nejapensis and it's nothing like my plant !

I had a plant here ID'd on before here as M. Compressa , and it turned out to be M. Karwinskiana .

.

=.^~^.= But I don't want it to be Mamm Zeilmanniana

.

So the Echinopsis could be E. Spachiana for definite ? I might have that one right then

Here are the pics finally of the new plants I obtained in the last few weeks.

A close up of the Unknown Notocactus ( parodia ) that I got at IKEA some weeks ago

Image

.

And also the four smaller plants that I bought at Capital gardens at Morden Hall Park.

I was just going to walk out with a rather dodgy looking parodia with a couple of splits in the side , a bud and what looked like a damaged growing point, that looked like it had the potential to turn crested.

But after seeing the fine plants near the main entrance that had just came in. I decided to push the boat out rather than go into rescue mode again, like I normaly do at this location. They actually had some good plants there on this occasion.

=^~^= ! !

Image

.

Rear left a rather normal looking Chamaelobivia that turned out to have a slightly tatty purple flower later, I thought I would give this a go, as I have a small Chamaelobivia ( echinopsis ) collection

Rear right is what looks to be a Gymnocalycium Vatteri ? And the Front left also looks to be a G. Vatteri , so I in fact I bought two . Even if you look carefully , the two plants as well as looking perfect specimens have subtle differences in body, spine colour and the flower buds are slightly variant . I may try and cross these two lil fella's

The Chamaelobivia resides in the Allotment greenhouse now. The other three where repotted in identical pots, compost and with coarse grit on top and are looking the Dogs hairy Sandra's now :D

And then last but not least a plant that just hit me as a classic He's gotta have it buy. Looks to be a Copiapoa , I know not the name.

.

=^_^=

Enjoy . . . .

Cool new plants, the two gymnos do look like vatteri. I like the dark one is it an occulta?

Oh snap, Eriosyce occulta (or a hybrid of occulta)! That's a pretty good find, I'd be very pleased with that. The Chamaelobivia is the classic 'Rose quartz'. A good staple in any collection.

=^o^=

Hey thats quite a result then. When I saw the plant, have to say my fingers were attracted to it like a magnet , and my eyes were more than blessed at the sight. So I finaly have one of those Eriosyce. I also checked under Neoporteria and Neochillenia, and the same but different plants came up.

We had a lecture about Eriosyce last year at the BCSS ( bromley ) branch last year. So I think I will leave it as this. However I found the original label for my Neoporteria Paucicostata , some weeks go. So i'll leave that custom pot as it is =^u^=

When it comes to Gymno's " I just can't help myself " * goes into funny dance *. And these two were just perfection in a pot and sent me into euphoria.

.

Rose quartz eh !

Meh

I'll give it a go , see how it does among the other plants of it's kind. But recently I have been doing well with the Chamaelobivia's. Think either i've got it right finally , or this subject is not allowed is finally allowing me to grow cacti in UK/GB. I'm still gonna keep planting the VendeTtatreeZ

I gave in to temptation and ordered an e.occulta from ebay after seeing yours. I had bid on one previously but was not prepared to pay anywhere near as much as it went for, got luky this time. Just keeping a eye out for nice pots now. Im not any where near as graphically creative as you so im scouring ebay and second hand shops for random pots now so I can properly display them.
